I travel a lot for work and I like staying in nice hotels. However my company sets strict rules on how much you can spend. The key to living like a king on the road is taking advantage of www.hotwire.com You can use it to book hotels, cars, cruises, etc but I just use it for hotels. Let's say you wanted to stay a night in beautiful Boston.
Hop on over to www.hotwire.com, enter in the city, and travel dates. All pretty straight forward. Now limit it to 4-stars and up over on the left of the results screen.
You're now asking, ok, so how the heck do I choose one now. Well, that is the rub with Hotwire, you have to base it off of the amenities and recommendations and just hope and pray. Unless you read this blog, then you go to http://betterbidding.com/
This website is updated by frequent users of Hotwire and Priceline to help deduce what the hotel is based on the information provided. Let's try to find the 30% savings one in back bay. I like spas.
So at http://betterbidding.com/ scroll down to Massachusetts forum, then click on the hotwire subforum and then the pinned "hotwire list". Next do a find (ctrl + f) and search for back bay since the lists are sorted by area. You should see these options:
O.K. so ours is a 4 star with a spa and a pool. By process of elimination, that leaves the Westin Copley Place. Let say you had gone over to kayak.com (another great website) and found this hotel, what is the price would have been there
Looks like $279. That is a pretty nice savings and confirms the advertised 30% off moniker. Now I'd love to prove to you I'm right by booking the hotwire hotel but I'm not traveling to Boston anytime soon and Hotwire is a stickler about trying to cancel after you purchase (so don't try that trick). I will say that sometimes two hotels in the same area have the same characteristics and stars, so that messes it up, and sometimes the data changes or is incorrect but even when it doesn't work perfectly, you've saved a lot on your next hotel stay.
